FAQ about the who, where and what of DM's Cycles & Repairs!

DM’s Cycles & Repairs FAQ. Here you will find answers to some questions you may have about navigating the site, orders, the booking calendar, booking in and dropping off your bike, part availability etc. If there’s anything not covered by the FAQ, there’s a way to get in touch to ask anything further.

A – Hello! I’m Clydebank based bicycle technician and small business owner, David Maxwell. I’ve been working in the everyday bike repairs and sales industry for the last 20 years.

Through my career I have gained a number of technical qualifications, the most significant of which for my industry is up to level 2 equivalent of Cytech (Retail in-house training, developed in conjunction with Cytech) However, I do work in excess of this technical grade, through experience gained via sheer number of bikes built and worked on over the last two decades, coupled with a personal desire to improve my own skills.

As far as bikes go- there’s not much I won’t deal with. All cyclists need to start somewhere, so I am perfectly happy to work on kid’s bikes. I don’t care much for bike snobbery and am happy to work professionally and without prejudice on a bike which cost £100 or £1000! So, get in touch for a quote of any work you’re looking to have done to your (or your kid’s) bikes!

ABuilding of any bikes of all disciplines (road, hybrid, gravel, CX, MTB, kids) bought from any retailer or online seller, completed to a full in-house build safety checklist.

I can fully overhaul ‘shed/garage’ bikes, left to rust for many years which may have a sentimental value.

Servicing of anything from everyday puncture requests, to full on strip to bare frame and rebuild bike services.

Brake bleeding to advanced servicing of your hydraulic brakes, lever pistons, callipers and hoses, barbs, o-rings and reservoir diaphragms.

I can service certain types of MTB fork. Forks include all sprung suspension forks and certain models of SR Suntour air forks.

Trouble-shooting and fixing problems of many kinds. If you’ve been told it’s unfixable somewhere else- come and have a chat! If your frame isn’t cracked, there’s a great chance your problem is fixable!

I can source (and fit!) literally thousands of parts and accessories from many well known brands which you would expect to find on any high-street style website. Backed by my known and trusted suppliers, who include  Madison, WindWave, Chicken, Greyville, Muc-Off, Oxford Products, Silverfish (& more!) With from-next-day delivery available on many products, parts and accessories for you and your bike.

Are you looking for a price for a particular item you’ve seen and noticed the brand on the DM’s list? Send a message to find out more! Gloves, Mudguards, Lights, Pannier Systems, Groupsets, Handlebars- If it’s on a bike, there’s a good chance I can source it, or a reasonable equivalent, for you!

A – Use the menu in the top most section of any site page to navigate. If you are on desktop or tablet, you will see easy to navigate “drop down” menus with titles. If you are on a mobile device, you’ll see the dropdown menu as a classic three line expandable “hamburger” menu.

Alternatively, there is a page sitemap at the footer to allow easy access to any one specific page you may want to browse.

On laptop & desktop devices, the inset sticky text menu in the long pill is for quick clickable navigation of the homepage sections. This only appears on the homepage and only on laptop & desktop browsers

AYES! As of the beginning of 2023, DM’s Cycles & Repairs is now a physical store location at 28a Alexander Street in Clydebank. Alexander Street is just at the crossing between the Clyde Shopping Centre and Clydebank train station where the taxi rank is. Short stay on street parking is available. Heading down toward the college and leisure centre, keep to the left side of the street, DM’s Cycles & Repairs is in the middle of the row. Drop ins are welcome, as are ‘click & collect’ orders made via the website!

A – This means that although a product is available, it is something that is not currently physically stocked at DM’s Cycles & Repairs. It is in stock with my supplier(s) and available to order now. Order time can vary between suppliers, however, they are all major UK distributors. This means delivery to store for order & collect is 24-48 working day hours. Delivery to your home is usually 4-7 business days, unless otherwise noted on any given product page. In the rare event of an order being processed and any supplier(s) being out of stock, a refund will be issued, or offer of an alternative product can be discussed. DM’s has from-next-day access to 1000’s of parts & accessories, way more than I could stock! So don’t be alarmed by ‘back order,’ shipping is taken care of quickly from major UK based distributors.

A – With DM’s it’s easy!

Shop online on the DM’s website as you would normally, adding items to your basket as you go. Go through the regular checkout process, where you will see selectable order payment options.

 If you buy a product/service which then requires a booking time i.e. fitting of:

  • part/accessory or;

  • bike inspection;

  • assembly of a new bike;

  • any service package;

Clicking the ‘Calendar’ link in the main menu header, or in the footer section at the bottom of any page lets book your fitting time. Alternatively, you can send me a direct message should you wish to make any additional arrangements, or to convey a point that you would be unable to through the calendar. I can then book you in manually. Alternatively, you can pop into store to discuss your requirements.

A – If when you check, the calendar page shows ‘Nothing available on this day,’ simply press the ‘Next Available’ button to reveal time slots for future days. Certain jobs have longer lead times for booking. For instance, a simple puncture repair can be booked in with very little notice. For full strip-down services, one days’ lead time is required to prepare for your booking.

A – Nice & easy! Just book your repair slot on the calendar page, send me a message or pop into the store to arrange a drop off or booking for a certain day. I stock a multitude of everyday cycling essentials and have the suppliers to access literally 1000’s of parts, accessories & brands you already love- & some you don’t even know you love yet! Any special order parts take typically 24-48 hours to deliver to store from suppliers. In instances where delivery time is likely to exceed this time scale, you will be kept fully appraised.

A – That’s right! There are offers extended to my customers through social media. eBay, Facebook, Instagram & Google Business. If you see something you like on offer, it’s as easy as sending a message! Contact DM’s with a brand, short description of the part or offer etc. you’re looking to buy.

Payment for this type of transaction is made via a simple online invoice system (provided by iZettle/PayPal) with a ‘due by’ date. Once you’ve paid with your card online, your product will be ordered (if not in stock,) and you’ll be kept posted via email about your order status.

A – We live in a modern world, and DM’s doesn’t plan on lagging behind, technologically speaking! You can pay by cash, card (all major credit and debit cards accepted) or contactless (Apple, GPay etc.) in person if you’re picking up a part or repair and have a bill to settle.

Online, through dmscycles.co.uk, you can pay by any of the means you’ll already be accustomed to. All major credit and debit cards are accepted. You can Apple/G Pay from the shopping cart or checkout pages on compatible devices, or you can pay via PayPal on the final checkout screen.

A – Absolutely you can, <— Just click the link! I look forward to hearing from you!

The ‘Calendar‘ page is hosted internally on the DM’s website and is provided by BookedIn.com – You can find the booking calendar page link as a selectable option within the main menu at the top of any page. Here you will find all available fit/build/service options currently on offer, along with all available timeslots as clickable links. Just choose your time & date, enter your details, and that’s it!

I’ll see you at DM’s!
